Clinical Evaluation of Pipemidic Acid in Urinary Tract Infection

Abstract
|
|
|
Pipedimic acid was orally administered to 34 cases of various urinary tract infections at daily dose of 1,200mg for 7 days and following results were obtained.
1) The efficacy rate of Pipemidic acid were 100% in E-coli, Proteus and Staphylococcus aureus, 80% Pseudomenas aeruginosa, 75% in Serratia species. The total efficacy rate was 88.2%.
2) Efficacy of Pipemidic acid was excellent in simple acute cystitis and pyelonephritis.
3) Severe G- I trouble and generalized rash were observed in 2 cases as side effect.
4) It is concluded from results that Pipemidic acid is an excellent chemotherapeutic for urinary tract infection, especially due to gram-negative bacilli.
